Worcester , Mass. Crescent Innovations Inc., a biomedical company with operations in Worcester , MA , received two patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office this month.
"One patent relates to our technology to treat TMJ disorders, a key area of focus for us," said Al Prescott, President of Crescent Innovations. "Crescent Innovations has been committed to developing a non-surgical therapy for the over 10 million Americans who suffer TMJ disorders ever since the company was founded." The technology was partially developed with a Phase 1 grant from the National Institute of Dental Craniofacial Research, and is the subject of a pending Phase 2 grant.
The second patent relates to a method for producing a new biological polymer. "All of our technologies relate to biological polymers, which are naturally occurring large molecules," explained Prescott. "This second patent relates to a method for producing polyglutamic acid, a molecule which has show great promise for treating joint pain, and acting as a drug delivery mechanism." Crescent Innovations has several more patents pending for the use of polyglutamic acid.
